Ductless Mini Splits

Mitsubishi air compressor installed on balcony

Heating and cooling a home throughout the year here in the suburbs of St. Louis has traditionally meant paying for, maintaining, and repairing two separate pieces of equipment: a furnace and an air conditioner. But just like a computer and a phone used to be two separate pieces of technology that were combined into the smartphone, heating and cooling systems have efficiently been combined into the space saving, versatile, heat pump technology known as a ductless air conditioner, or mini split!

SmartHouse Heating and Cooling specializes in ductless mini split installation for the homes in Clayton, Brentwood, Creve Coeur, Ladue, Overland, Richmond Heights, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves, so you can enjoy benefits like:

  • Reliable home comfort, on demand
  • Reduced heating and cooling costs
  • Versatile zoned comfort options
  • Safer operation and increased indoor air quality
  • A reduced carbon footprint

How a Ductless Mini Split System Works

Curious why there has been such a buzz around mini splits lately? It is the combination of efficiency and versatility. A mini split utilizes heat pump technology, which moves heat from one place to another. This method is much more efficient than creating the heat used in a traditional furnace, and even uses less energy than a conventional air conditioner.

This movement of heat works two ways: removing heat from your home in the summer, and bringing in heat from the outside air in the winter (even in sub freezing temperatures, a mini split can find ambient heat outside). This is done through two units, the indoor air handler and the outdoor compressor unit. They are connected via an airtight refrigerant line that virtually eliminates any loss of energy.

A Single Room or the Whole House Solution

A ductless Mitsubishi unit is installed directly in the room that requires additional heating and cooling power. This makes mini splits great for recently added rooms, bonus rooms above the garage, or other areas that are not included in the ductwork of your central air conditioning system.

However, SmartHouse can also connect multiple indoor air handling units to a single outdoor compressor for a whole home heating and cooling solution. This makes mini splits a great supplement to your existing HVAC system.
